ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orange County deputy hospitalized this week after suffering a serious brain injury is on life support and his family has said goodbye to him, the sheriff’s office said Thursday.
Deputy Michael Milmerstadt was at a gym Monday when he developed a severe headache. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the headache turned out to be a brain injury.
The sheriff’s office has not offered any other information about the injury.
It is with deep sadness that we inform you Deputy Michael Milmerstadt’s family has said goodbye to him. Mike remains on life support because it’s their wish that he provide a chance at life to others through organ donation.

On Thursday afternoon the sheriff’s office tweeted that Milmerstadt’s family had said their goodbyes, and they wanted his organs to be donated.

Milmerstadt has been with the sheriff’s office for seven years and was a member of the agency’s SWAT team. He is also a member of the Community Oriented Policing Squad.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help Milmerstadt’s wife and three sons.
