Teen arrested after being found with gun at Seminole High School, police say

Weapon found in 18-year-old’s backpack following tip to school, according to report

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – An 18-year-old student was arrested after he was found with a weapon at Seminole High School on Thursday, according to Sanford police.

Michael Pfeiffer, the school’s principal, announced in a message Thursday that the school received a tip about a student who might have had a weapon.

According to an arrest report, an unknown parent advised the school that the student had allegedly discharged a firearm at Topgolf, located at 1010 Greenwood Blvd. in Lake Mary, and officials later attempted to locate the weapon, despite the fact that the incident had happened off-campus.

Upon finding the student, school officials found that the teen did have a weapon in his backpack, Pfeiffer said. Police added the semi-automatic handgun was found loaded with a single magazine of ammunition and had been reported stolen in a separate Orange County investigation.

In a voicemail to parents, Pfeiffer explained that due to the school’s zero-tolerance policy, “proper disciplinary actions” were taken.

“We are thankful to the individual who shared this information with us,” Pfeiffer said. “It is a classic example of ‘see something, say something.’”

The report shows the teen faces charges for carrying a concealed weapon and unlicensed firearm and possession of a weapon on school property.

The report shows officers were later made aware Blake had made statements about wanting to use the firearm to kill himself. Until News 6 learns more about the teen’s mental health, we have decided not to name him.
