Deputies said they made contact with the female victim when they arrived on the scene, but the man — Jose Cruz, 32, — refused to come out of the house.

Deputies negotiated with Cruz for more than two hours but he barricaded himself in the home with children inside.

“I actually saw the sheriff’s car coming and once I saw three or four sheriff’s (vehicles) coming, I knew something serious had happened,” said a woman named Mary who is part of the neighborhood watch.

Cruz was eventually taken into custody. However, Cruz managed to punch one deputy in the head during the arrest, according to investigators. Cruz was also bitten by an Orange County Sheriff’s Office dog.

Cruz was taken to a nearby hospital, and then to jail after he was treated. He is facing several charges, including robbery, battery (domestic violence), battery on a law enforcement officer, obstructing justice, and resisting and officer with violence.
