Shots fired at Spirit Truck Stop in Lake Panasoffkee, according to sheriff’s office

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A man was arrested Wednesday after a shootout at a truck stop in Sumter County, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said they responded to a report of shots fired between two sedans around 11:43 a.m. at a Texaco, or Spirit Travel Center, in Lake Panasoffkee.

Video shows the suspect, who deputies later identified as Dequan Scott, pull into the parking lot and fire shots at another vehicle at the gas pumps. Deputies said this resulted in an exchange of gunfire with the other vehicle, which appeared to have multiple people in it.

The suspect, who got a flat tire due to the gunshots, then fled to a nearby Planned Pethood, where deputies located and arrested him, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators said he had been shot in the arm and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
