Man pumping gas in Marion County shot during attempted carjacking, deputies say

Shooting happened at Petro Travel Center gas station near I-75

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A man pumping gas in Marion County was shot Wednesday during an attempted carjacking, according to the sheriff’s office.

The shooting happened at the Petro Travel Center gas station on Highway 318 near Interstate 75.

Sheriff’s officials said they “believe the victim was randomly selected while he was stopped to refuel. When the victim refused, the suspect shot the victim and fled.”

The sheriff’s office said the victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening. The victim’s age has not been released.
