OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – The Osceola County mother who admitted to strangling her 13-year-old son now faces a charge of first-degree premeditated murder, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said it is recommending the additional charge against Jasmin Kennedy, 37, after consulting with the medical examiner.

Kennedy faced a judge for the first time on Tuesday, where she was assigned a public defender. The judge ordered her to be held without bond.

Sheriff Marcos Lopez said deputies responded to a home on Crosley Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Monday, where they found the boy lying dead in a bed.

Investigators said Kennedy then told deputies she had killed her son, specifically that she had choked him on his bed. According to the sheriff, she is cooperating with the investigation. Deputies have not said what a possible motive may be.

Kennedy initially only faced charges of domestic battery by strangulation, child neglect and aggravated child abuse. Lopez said on Monday that more serious charges would depend on what the medical examiner had to say about the child’s manner of death.
