MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A man was injured Wednesday morning in a deputy-involved shooting near Dunnellon, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they began investigating the scene in the 10000 block of Highway 41 shortly before 9:30 a.m.
No deputies were injured, according to the sheriff’s office, adding the man who was shot had a recent interaction with law enforcement.
“Apparently it was somebody we dealt with before and they were doing a follow-up call with this person,” said MCSO Lt. Paul Bloom.

The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
“The suspect was not driving. He was on foot on that area,” Bloom said. “There were four deputies at the scene, the number that opened fire that has not been determined yet. That will come out here in this investigation.”
Those four deputies are now on paid leave, according to Bloom.
Deputies have not released the name of the man who was shot, nor a more detailed description of what led to the shooting than the following:
“He had a weapon at some point. What that was, don’t know yet, that will be released, but it rose to the level to where their deputies felt threatened and required to use deadly force,” Bloom said.
We have requested body camera video of the confrontation to learn more about what happened. At the scene Wednesday afternoon, we saw that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement had stepped in to investigate.
