WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – A woman was reported missing out of Winter Springs over the weekend, and her estranged husband has been named a person of interest, according to the police department.
Police said Shakeria Yvonne Rucker was last seen leaving her home in Winter Springs on Nov. 11 around 7:30 p.m.
In a release, investigators said that Rucker’s family believes she left with her estranged husband — identified as Cory Hill — to an unknown destination.
On Tuesday, Winter Springs police said Hill, who is currently in jail, is a person of interest in Rucker’s disappearance. Detectives said they attempted to question Hill about his wife’s disappearance, but he declined to talk.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Hill was arrested on Monday on charges of burglary, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Deputies told News 6 that Hill is suspected of firing at a woman and her family members along Holly Creek Road on Sunday morning.
Angel Milligan, who told News 6 she is the victim in the attempted murder case against Hill, said Hill came to her Mt. Dora home on Sunday and tried to kill her, firing indiscriminately around the house narrowly missing her children. She hid and Hill left. He was later arrested.
“He made his way to my house in anger, [said] you’re gonna regret it,” Milligan said. “He just pulled up and said don’t run now and then I noticed the gun in his right hand. And [said] I’m going to kill you or something but it’s the ‘don’t run now’ which kind of stuck to me which made me turn around. And I hear pop, pop shots, it was like unbelievable. Something you’d see in a movie. To know I turned my back on flying bullets, I heard like two of them come past me.
Milligan said she dated Hill for several months, but filed a restraining order against Hill after she discovered he was married to Shakeria Rucker. Orange County Clerk of Court records show Milligan was granted a domestic violence injunction against Hill in September.
While no one was injured, Hill had fled the scene before law enforcement showed up, deputies added.
Law enforcement officials said a multi-agency collaboration was able to locate video in Polk County that shows Hill and Rucker together Saturday evening.
However, Rucker’s family has neither seen nor heard from Rucker since Nov. 11, leading them to believe that she might be in danger, the release shows.
“All I want him to do is just tell us where she’s at,” said Elaine Rucker, Shakeria Rucker’s mother. “Give us some closure, think about her children, give them some closure because they love their mom.”
Gary Chatman, the family’s minister, told News 6 that he’s concerned over Shakeria Rucker’s well-being.
“My heart wants to tell me she’s OK, but my reality says what is possible...” Chatman said. “We have this cold loyalty to the streets, and it’s not good.”
“We have no idea what happened,” Shakeria‘s sister Dedra Rucker said. “Her daughter got a text from her phone, we don’t even know if she texted it, around 6:00 the next morning, saying she was headed home and they haven’t seen her since.”
“He was supposed to be a trusted man of God,” Dedra said. “This is all a shock. I have no idea.”
“She has four kids!” Dedra said sobbing. “Four kids, they need her, it’s not right, it’s not right, she doesn’t bother anybody, she just goes to work and go to church she doesn’t bother anyone. We should be planning for Thanksgiving, this is not right.”
