WINTER PARK, Fla. – A man was arrested after he carjacked a valet attendant in Winter Park Village and later ran from police, according to the department.
Javon Jeremy Hines, 34, faces multiple charges.
According to the Winter Park Police Department, Hines approached a red Chevrolet Corvette around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and threatened the valet, who was driving the vehicle, with a gun.
An arrest affidavit shows Hines asked the valet, “Do you want to die over someone else’s car?” after the attendant hesitated in handing over the keys.
Hines took off in the Corvette and was later spotted in the 1700 block of Lee Road, where he ran away from police and eventually was taken into custody.
Video released by the department shows an officer running after Hines, eventually deploying a Taser to arrest him.

People nearby said they’re glad Hines was caught.
“It’s unbelievable, especially in Winter Park. You just don’t expect something like that to happen in your hometown,” said Winter Park resident Robin West. “It’s rather shocking.”
“It’s a shame that it happened, particularly to a valet,” said Winter Park resident Will Jones. “Citizens have to become a lot more vigilant in our community, and I just think we have to be aware of our environment.”
That valet attendant was not hurt, and the vehicle was recovered.
Winter Park police said a gun was recovered and processed at the scene, but it belonged to the owner of the vehicle. They’re still trying to verify if Hines actually had a gun when he approached the valet.
Hines faces a multitude of charges, including robbery/carjacking with a firearm, grand theft of a motor vehicle and aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony.
