Winter Springs restaurant, Thai Basil, to close after 20 years

Last day of service will be Jan. 31

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – After 20 years, Thai Basil will close its doors in Winter Springs, the restaurant recently announced.

Its last day of operation will be Jan. 31.

“The owners of Thai Basil have decided to not renew the lease and will be moving forward in their lives,” a letter posted in the restaurant said. “We are forever grateful for all the love, support and generosity over the years.”

The letter did not state a specific reason for closing. Meanwhile, property records or the real estate investment firm that owns the plaza did not share how much Thai Basil lease was, or how much it will cost once it comes on the market.

Located at 5800 Red Bug Lake Road, the eatery serves lunch, dinner and desserts. Menu items still available include salad, soups, fried rice, noodles, duck, fish and more.

Meanwhile. Central Florida has seen a flurry of eateries shutter its doors recently:

  • Orlando’s Hungry Pants announced after four years, it will close its doors indefinitely.
  • Sweets by Holly closed its Waterford Lakes location after being there for 15 years and not being able to afford the 60% hike in rent.
  • Persimmon Hollow Brewing Company shuttered its Port Orange location last month, it still is operating in DeLand and Orlando.
