Man wanted after woman shot, killed in Marion County, deputies say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday it had secured a warrant for a man’s arrest in the shooting death of a woman in Marion Oaks the day prior, according to a news release.

Melvin Arias, 33, is accused of shooting of Milagros Guzman Lopez, 47, who deputies located dead Friday afternoon near a gas station and shopping plaza along Marion Oaks Boulevard.

Witnesses said that an argument began outside after Arias arrived to the location, soon retrieving a firearm from his vehicle and using it to shoot Lopez, the release states. Arias then ran away, deputies said.

Anyone with knowledge of Arias’ whereabouts is urged to call 911. He is considered armed and dangerous, according to the sheriff’s office.
