Tet festival held in Orlando as Lunar New Year approaches

Festival held at Central Florida Fairgrounds

ORLANDO, Fla. – As the Lunar New Year approaches, more than a thousand people packed one of the largest venues in Central Florida this weekend to celebrate Vietnamese culture.

The Tet festival was held Saturday and Sunday at the Central Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando.

“The lunar new year is the way that we celebrate the happiness, the prosperity and the celebration of the culture,” said Tim Pham, who attended the festival.

We saw kids and families doing line dances and many others showcasing their best traditions.

“This is an event that you can come and experience what the Vietnamese do on the New Year day,” Pham said.

Tim Pham and his wife were born in Vietnam and now live in Central Florida. He said it’s also about passing down their traditions to the next generation.

“On this New Year’s day we bring the children together and we let them know about our past and our ancestors’ past so they can keep that and know their roots and move forward with who they are,” Pham said.

There were so many vendors, shopping, and even a concert was held.

It was a family affair for Quan Nguyen and his wife, who were also born in Vietnam.

“Me and my wife, we left the country when we were young and we do have friends over there when we left, and we never have any connection with them but then some of these events like this we just run into each other,” Quan Nguyen said.
