Seminole County parks near Lake Dot neighborhoods receive new amenities

Renovations have cost $912K, county says

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – For Seminole County residents Linda Moore and Jean McCann, Lake Dot Park in Sanford is their spot.

“We’d come here, feed the ducks,” Moore said.

Now that renovations have come to two county parks, Moore and McCann said they are happy to see the new upgrades that include a fishing pier, a fountain and a gazebo.

“And the lights and the beautiful fountain and it’s just really nice to come down here every day, I do seven to eight laps every day. She walks too,” McCann said.

Seminole County Parks and Recreation has worked on the renovations since 2021 with the goal to give more families a place to enjoy the outdoors.

“Look at it this way, when we build neighborhoods, new neighborhoods, the existing land development code requires amenities, but years ago these old neighborhoods didn’t require those and so it’s important that we actually go back into the older neighborhoods,” Commissioner Bob Dallari said.

According to the county, the total cost was $912,000 from funding sources including APRA, the FDOT Agreement Award and the Community Development Block Grant.

Just a few blocks away from Lake Dot Park, residents can enjoy the new amenities at Sunland Park which include a new playground, picnic area and a fitness station.

A stormwater channel for drainage was also added which was designed by FDOT.

“A lot of memories here and now I have great grandkids that come down here and come to the park,” Moore said.
