Let the games begin: Mount Dora Scottish Festival brings Highland dancers, athletics, music

Events kick off at Elizabeth Evans Park, Donnelly Park

MOUNT DORA, Fla. – The Mount Dora Scottish Festival is back once again, bringing Scotland right here to Central Florida.

Festivities kick off on Friday for a weekend filled with Highland dancing, pipes and drums performances, contests, music and more.

For Friday, there will be music and dancing from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Elizabeth Evans Park. The festival will then take place at both Elizabeth Evans Park and Donnelly Park on Saturday and then just Donnelly Park on Sunday.

If you want to catch the Highland games, be sure to go on Saturday! The games run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

And of course, there will be traditional Scottish food available.

Here are some of the performers you can catch this weekend:

  • Scottish Ceilidh
    • “A Ceilidh is a social gathering with music and dancing - a perfect way to experience the joy and camaraderie of Scottish culture. Don’t miss this chance to dance the night away in true Scottish style!”
  • Poehemia
    • “POEHEMIA delivers the best Celtic Rock! Formed alongside the docks of Baltimore’s historic, industrial waterside community POEHEMIA brings a fresh interpretation to traditional and Celtic music.”
  • City of Mount Dora Pipes and Drums
    • “Experience Mount Dora’s Scottish heritage with the City of Mount Dora Pipes and Drums. Established in 2017, this nonprofit group of 38 performers brings vibrant bagpipe music to events, adding a unique touch to Central Florida’s cultural landscape.”
  • Nova Scotia
    • “A seasoned trio of musicians who have been crafting music together for over three decades. Specializing in punk and rock renditions of radio hits spanning the 1950s to the 2000s, their performance guarantees a vibrant atmosphere and a memorable experience for the audience.”
