ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – A man accused of killing his wife in their Altamonte Springs apartment in June 2022 was sentenced to 40 years in prison this week.

Xichen Yang was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Nhu Quynh Pham. Police said Yang admitted to slashing her throat, putting her in the bathtub and holding her hand while she died.

Police also said Yang told his employer that he was upset with Pham for burning his passport, and admitted that he killed her.

Yang was indicted on capital first-degree murder charges, but he took a plea agreement and was sentenced to 40 years in prison instead, according to a spokesperson for the 18th Judicial Circuit in Seminole County.
