ORLANDO – Thousands of used solar panels will be given away as part of the “The Great Solar Giveaway,’ according to a news release.
Officials from Ideas For Us, a nonprofit aimed at solving the “world’s most pressing environmental and social challenges,” said they are helping to give away the more than 5,000 panels that will be available. The aim is to keep the panels out of the landfill and into use across Central Florida, according to the release.

“An Orlando group is switching out their useful, older solar panels and we want to keep as many of them out of the landfill as possible and that is where you come in!” the release read in part.

The panels, which are about 19 years old have the following dimensions:
- Solar World Sunmodule SW 175 Mono - 72 cell Panel Dimensions
- Approximately 5.2 feet x 2.6 feet x 1.3 inches
- Panel Weight: Around 33 pounds
Officials said the used panels were from “a local project,” but did not provide additional details.
You can pick up the panels through March 31 from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. any day of the week.
