1 dead in potential ‘Stand Your Ground’ shooting at Ocala home

OCALA, Fla. – A shooting on Tuesday afternoon left a man dead at a home in Ocala, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, deputies said the shooting happened around 4:40 p.m. in the 2700 block of Southwest 143rd Place Road.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man — John Davis, 26 — who had suffered a gunshot wound, the release says.

According to investigators, Davis was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

The suspect remained at the scene and was taken into custody, though he was later released because the shooting is being investigated as a possible “Stand Your Ground” incident, detectives explained.
