No injuries reported after awning collapses at Seminole County department store, blocks entrance doors

Everyone in the store was able to exit through alternate ways out, officials said

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – A large awning at the HomeGoods store in Winter Springs collapsed on Sunday evening, possibly from high winds in the area, according to a news release.

Officials from the Seminole County Fire Department said the awning that measures about 60 feet long, and at one time projected about 10 feet from the storefront, collapsed, covering the entry doors.

According to the release, fire officials said it appeared that high winds from the storm that moved through the area caused the collapse.

Officials said that although the entrance to the store was blocked, everyone in the store was able to exit through alternate ways out.

The store in the Promenade at Tuskawilla, located at 1425 Tuskawilla Road, is currently closed until repairs can be made or removal of the awning happens.
