ORLANDO, Fla. – You oughta know! A musical based on Alanis Morissette’s best selling album in the mid-90s is taking the stage in Central Florida.
“Jagged Little Pill The Musical” tells the story of an American family from Connecticut with an adopted Black daughter.
They begin to unravel when they’re faced with issues of repressed gender identity, sexual assault, and substance abuse.
It’s inspired by Morissette’s 1995 album exploring pain, healing, and empowerment.

Teralin Jones plays the adopted daughter, Frankie Healy. She said although she’s not adopted, she really relates to her character.
“When I see what Frankie is going through, especially like the coming into your own, you’re 16, that’s when you’re deciding who you are and then being in an environment that does not care who you are, it’s so hard,” said Jones.
“I just understand it, because when you’re that age, and there’s so much going on in the world, and you feel like you’re the only representation in your neighborhood or in your friend group, amongst your peers, there’s such a responsibility that you feel,” Jones explained.
Dillon Klena plays her older brother, Nick Healy. Klena said the role has forced him to reflect on his own teenage years, especially when it comes to standing up for others.
“I went back in my past and I was like, woah, there’s so many instances where I didn’t stop this or I didn’t say something about this or I didn’t say something about that, but now I learned that you know, you can, and I don’t know. It’s very interesting growing up and realizing,” said Klena.
During the 38th annual Grammy Awards in 1996, the “Jagged Little Pill” album won five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. 21-year-old Morissette was the youngest artist to win the top honor at that point.
“Jagged Little Pill The Musical” made its debut in 2018, before doing previews in 2019.
During the 74th Tony Awards, it had the most nominations of the 2019-20 season and won two awards.
The musical was directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (”Waitress,” “Pippin,” “1776″) with a Tony-winning book by Diablo Cody (”Juno”) and it has a Grammy-winning score.
