ORLANDO, Fla. – A Florida educator is doing her part to add to the professional and personal development of women from all walks of life.

Dr. Tracy Oliver is an assistant principal with Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville. She said the desire to highlight women’s achievements pushed her to start her nonprofit, GoLead.

“They need to be recognized, they need to have recognition, and they absolutely can impact and influence policies, and community awareness, and do what’s best for teaching and learning but also do what’s best for anything,” Oliver said.

Coming up from April 2-5 is the organization’s GoLead Conference right here in Orlando.

Oliver said it’s a great opportunity for women to learn from other women who are leaders in their field.

“Just being in the room and in the space with those wonderful leading ladies, that’s almost enough synergy to ignite something within you to let you know that you can too,” Oliver said.

While women who work in education is the foundation of the conference, Oliver said it’s for women across all walks of life.

“So the fundamental focus of course is educators, but it’s for all women of all walks of life,” Oliver said. “For example, this year we’ve included our leadership circle which we’re really excited about as well. It’s a group of leading ladies from all walks of life. I have a retired Air Force captain, I have a vice president of a huge bank, I have an executive director of a huge educational organization here in Florida, so it’s just women who are leading.”

Oliver, who has been an educator for 29 years, serves on the African American History Task Force and recently won the Jacksonville Image Awards’ Education Excellence award.

She said she feels like it’s now her duty to give back to other women, which is why she created the GoLead conference.

“Now that I have had an opportunity to experience different things, and different boards and different situations, and impact different places and stakeholders, it’s my obligation to give back and to give a space for people to continue to work,” Oliver said.
