New rules for political signs at Kissimmee’s Civic Center

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The City of Kissimmee has revised a policy regarding political signs at the city-owned Civic Center.

The change comes after officials said the 2022 election season left behind damage to irruption and landscaping from large campaign signs.

The new policy sets a limit of 4 square feet for signs, and vehicles with campaign signs can’t take up more than one parking space. Signs must also be removed within 24 hours after the election.

“Of course, you want everyone to vote and go out and practice that right to vote and cast your vote. But again, we always strive for Kissimmee to be the best place to live and work in Central Florida, and it’s just one little bit that we can do to ensure that,” said Kissimmee’s Developmental Services Director Craig Holland.

The rules only apply to the city-owned Civic Center, and the update of the change will be sent to all current office holders and candidates.

“Everyone is very passionate about their candidate and their ballot issue, and it’s very competitive,” Holland said.

The policy allows for city staff to remove signs in violation.
