ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The victim of a shooting on Monday was the subject of a domestic violence injunction put in place to protect a person living on the property of the accused shooter, Orange County deputies said Tuesday.
Jesse Hill, 68, is facing a second-degree murder charge. Hill shot Lionel Nelson Jr. in the head with a rifle outside a home on 25th Street near Lee Street just after midnight on Monday, according to an arrest affidavit released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The affidavit said Nelson showed up and Hill’s home yelling for the person because he wanted his house key back. The person had told Nelson to meet them down the street away from the house because Hill knew about the active domestic violence injunction.
The affidavit said Hill came out of the house with a rifle and was very upset that Nelson was meeting with the person, who told Hill several times not to shoot Nelson and took the gun away.
That’s when Nelson and Hill got into a fight, according to the affidavit. Nelson fell as he tried to run away. Hill got the gun back and shot Nelson in the head, records show.
The person stayed with Nelson and called 911 while Hill went back inside the house.
Deputies said Hill was arrested and taken to the Orange County jail without incident.
The sheriff’s office said on Wednesday that Nelson died from his injuries.
