The driver then sped off, according to police, who said two people with Cosby ran away. The other person assisted Cosby to a nearby house before running away, police said.

Occupants of the home drove Cosby to the hospital, police said.

Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith said called out Cosby’s “friends” after the shooting.

“A 17-year-old lost his life. His ‘friends,’ and I use that term loosely, ran (away) rather than staying and helping him. They didn’t help him get the emergency medical attention he needed, nor stay to assist law enforcement identify and locate the person(s) who took his life. Unacceptable.”
