WINTER PARK, Fla. – It’s Fox Day at Rollins College!

Rollins College students were given Wednesday off to “enjoy the beautiful Florida weather.”

Students learned of the big surprise when a statue of the Rollins fox was placed on Tars Plaza, at the center of campus, early in the morning. The Chapel bell then rang to alert students of the special occasion while President Grant Cornwell handed out Fox Day proclamations and donuts to students who lined up outside his office.

Each year since 1956 -- with the exception of an anticlimactic 1962 and a seven-year suspension in the 1970s -- the president of Rollins College picks a spring day to give students a day off.

“HAPPY FOX DAY! Have a fun and safe day off from classes to enjoy the beautiful Florida weather,” the school posted on X.
