You Just Had a Baby: Registered nurse creates self-care cards for new moms

30-card deck is filled with ideas for motivational activities

ORLANDO, Fla. – Each morning on “Breakfast with Bridgett” there are interesting stories and interviews, plus weather and traffic to plan your day.

On Thursday, Bridgett talked to a registered nurse, yoga instructor, and life coach, Lesline Pittman, about resources for supporting new moms.

Pittman, who is a mother of two small children, pointed out how common it is for new moms to experience postpartum depression, and now studies suggest it can last years.

Through her experiences, Pittman developed a set of self-care cards for busy new moms called “You Just Had a Baby.”

“It has over 30 actionable items a new mom can do without leaving their house. The one I pulled here is ‘plan a self-care date, a mini self-care date,’ said Pittman. “I give you examples, one of the ones here is taking a free library class. This one you do have to leave the house, but it’s practical actionable items because I know when I first became a mom, I was very overwhelmed, And I was also like I have to do all of the things. But it’s not possible, so I wanted to create something you just take a card once a day and that’s what you focus on.”

The 30-card deck is filled with ideas for motivational activities, movements, and encouragement.

“This one here is ‘engage in a gentle stretch.’ It tells you to engage in a simple yoga stretch, focus on your breath, relieve tension, and rejuvenate body and mind. And this one you do not have to leave the house. You scan this QR code and it takes you to my Youtube channel where I have yoga meditation, all of that,” Pittman said.
