ORLANDO, Fla. – If you drove through downtown Orlando this weekend, odds are you might have noticed artists working on murals at busy intersections throughout the city.
The murals, located at different intersections, all have iconic Orlando images worked into the design.
“These four murals are all designed to have an Orlando focus and kind of an Orlando-centric vibe to them with some iconic swans, oranges and different things that people kind of think of when they think of Central Florida, or Florida in general,” said Skip, with A Pivotal Character.
Skip and other artists were hard at work this weekend in downtown Orlando painting murals at different intersections, such as at Church Street and Orange Avenue.

But these murals aren’t just for the looks.
“This is a collaboration with the city for their safety traffic initiative, so these actually are supposed to help people slow down and pay a little bit more attention to the roads and the traffic,” Skip said.
Skip said artwork can impact the energy a city projects onto its residents and visitors.
“Whether it’s something that makes you think, or is provoking, or if it’s something that’s just more aesthetically pleasing like this, it’s important that people be able to kind of be confronted and to be able to feel like they’re a part of something that’s pre-existing, that they’re able to be proud of and kind of like attach some of their identity to and connect to and makes them a little bit closer to the city,” Skip said.
Skip said he hopes they have the opportunity to continue creating more artwork throughout the city.
“We do want to be able to take some of this bright and vibrant and exciting artwork on more of a vertical surface,” Skip said. “That way, people can be able to enjoy it whether they’re driving or they’re not.”
