Montverde residents share why they love the area, share growth concerns

News 6 is hitting the road to the 34756 ZIP code

MONTVERDE, Fla. – As WKMG is preparing to hit the road next month in the 34756 ZIP code, people who live in the area are highlighting why they love the community and sharing their concerns.

Chris Anagnos moved to Montverde with his wife in 2021 and said the peacefulness of the area is one of the biggest draws.

“We wanted to come to Orlando, but we didn’t want to be in the hustle and bustle of the traffic of tourists,” Anagnos said. “We’re far enough away that we really can enjoy the surroundings and the small town country feel of this area.”

The Anagnos’ live in the Bella Collina community, which is home to a world-class spa and golf course.

The area is also known for great school options, including Montverde Academy, which is a private college preparatory school founded in 1912.

“They have the Montverde Academy, which is huge for the area, and the kids are great here, so they support the town as well,” Anagnos said.

Cyclists, like Bryan Davis, are also drawn to the areas surrounding Montverde.

“A lot of people travel to this area to ride and they don’t believe there’s any hills in Florida until they get here,” Davis said. “It’s part of several networks and roadways and stuff that are considered some of the most popular for cyclists.”

Davis said he rides the trails and roads often on his bicycle, but also has concerns about excessive growth.

“I believe Lake County is one of the fastest growing counties in Florida right now,” he said. “Other areas around us are growing at a pace faster than the infrastructure can be created.”

Davis credited Montverde officials with controlling growth within the town and said the construction in surrounding areas doesn’t overshadow what the highlights of the town.

“It’s a pretty big destination for weekenders that are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy some of the nature this area has to offer,” Davis said.
