ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 69-year-old woman faces multiple charges after she was accused of slashing a University of Central Florida police officer Monday afternoon on campus.

According to an arrest affidavit, an officer with UCF police responded to the Duke Energy Welcome Center on campus at 12:22 p.m. in reference to a woman, who was “stating that she had been kidnapped by unknown persons.”

Police said as they were speaking to the woman, she pulled out a knife and lunged at the officer. After the officer backed away, the woman continued to wave the knife and approach the officer.

According to the affidavit, a commander with the campus police who was in the immediate area, pointed his gun at the woman and gave her orders to drop the knife, which she refused.

An officer was able to redirect the woman to the ground in a prone position while another officer “maintained control of (her) wrist.”

While the commander assisted in securing the woman and the knife, the woman reached up and struck an officer with a closed fist in the center of their chest, officials said.

According to the affidavit, while placing the woman in handcuffs, responding officers started to render aid to the first officer who approached the suspect. That officer suffered a laceration to her left arm, police said. “The laceration is consistent with being slashed with a knife and was made in the same manner that (the woman was) moving when she lunged” at the officer, the affidavit stated.

While securing the woman, she appeared to pass out before regaining consciousness, according to police, who added that she began screaming that she couldn’t breathe, that she had been kidnapped and that she was a veteran.

Police said the woman then started to get violent by tensing her body and pulling away from officers. When officers told her to stop resisting, she ignored and continued disobeying the commands of officers, police said.

The woman faces charges of attempted murder on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence and resisting an officer without violence.
