ORLANDO, Fla. – The family of an Osceola County man is suing Duke Energy after he was fatally electrocuted last year, according to court documents filed on Tuesday.

According to the lawsuit, that man — Tyler Keller — visited a retention pond at 9331 Bachman Road in Orlando on Nov. 25.

While fishing at the pond, Keller’s fishing line became tangled in some broken power lines, which caused him to be electrocuted and killed, the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit adds that Duke Energy was responsible for the power lines, accusing the power company of negligence and wrongful death.

“As a direct and proximate result of Duke Energy’s actions, omissions, carelessness, and/or negligence, Mr. Keller was killed,” the lawsuit reads.

Property records show that the pond sits on private property, which is home to several warehouses. Despite that, no information was provided in the lawsuit about why Keller was fishing there.

Regardless, his family is now seeking over $50,000 in damages.

News 6 reached out to Duke Energy for a statement about the lawsuit. However, the company responded that it doesn’t comment on pending litigation.

The full lawsuit has been attached to this story and can be read in the media viewer below.
