16-year-old charged as adult in shooting at Cabana Live near Sanford, faces 5 counts of attempted murder

Christopher Bouie moved from Juvenile Detention Center to Seminole County Jail

SANFORD, Fla. – The state on Monday filed adult charges against a teen accused in a shooting that injured 10 people last month at Cabana Live near Sanford.

Christopher Bouie Jr.’s case was transferred from Juvenile Court to the adult Circuit Court, and the teen now faces five counts of attempted second-degree murder while discharging a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a minor.

Bouie was arrested by Seminole County sheriff’s deputies and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center, but he was transferred to the Seminole County Jail and held without bond. Online records show that his next court date is scheduled for June 18.

According to an arrest report, two people began fighting after midnight on April 28 when an uninvolved person, later identified as Bouie, turned around and opened fire, wounding 10 people, including NFL player Tank Dell. All the victims were expected to be OK.

Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma spoke about the shooting during a news conference last month.

“Clearly, any person who looks at this (it) looks like the physical altercation and the shooting are probably connected,” Lemma said. “But we’ll work to put those those dots together, but we know of no relationship right now.”

Lemma said deputies are also looking for a second person who fired their gun but for unknown reasons.

“That unknown person could absolutely be justified under Florida self-defense laws to pull out a gun and return fire if somebody is firing at them,” Lemma said. “We just don’t know the circumstances. Until we can find that person and talk to him.”

A few days after the shooting, a lawsuit was filed against the venue where it happened.

The lawsuit claims that one of the victims, Rikita Davis, “experienced immediate bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering” from the shooting.

The suit lists Cabana Live of Sanford LLC, Marinas LLC, Off the Muscle Entertainment LLC and two unidentified men — listed as John Doe 1 and John Doe 2 — as defendants.

Documents show Davis claims the defendants were negligent in securing the proper permits for the event — which Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma had previously said — and did not have appropriate security for the event.
