Driver strikes pedestrians in fatal Brevard County crash near US-192

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A man was killed and a female was hurt after being struck by a vehicle on Sunday night, according to the West Melbourne Police Department.

In a release, police said the crash happened just after 9 p.m. near US-192 and Meadowland Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man and female laying in the road with life-threatening injuries, and both were taken to the hospital, the release shows.

Police said the man — identified as 45-year-old Bernard Letzinger — later succumbed to his injuries, and the female was critically injured but in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, the release states.

As a result of the crash, it is now being investigated as a traffic homicide.

No additional information has been provided at this time, including the driver’s identity, or whether he or she will face any charges.
