‘Forced his way into the bedroom:’ Burglary suspect shot after entering Kissimmee home

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A burglary suspect was shot after entering a home in Kissimmee on Tuesday, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, deputies said they responded to the burglary along Royal Palm Drive.

During the incident, deputies contacted the suspect — identified as David Martinez-Estrada, 28 — who was already inside the home, the release says.

According to investigators, deputies ordered Martinez-Estrada out of the home, but he instead went further inside.

Moments later, shots were heard from within the home, and Martinez-Estrada soon exited the home, explaining he’d been shot, deputies added. Martinez-Estrada was then taken to the hospital.

“Contact was made with the victim, who advised she acted in defense of herself and her family when the suspect forced his way into the bedroom the victim and her family were in,” the release reads.

Martinez-Estrada faces charges of criminal mischief, unarmed burglary, following/harassing/cyberstalking another person, and resisting arrest without violence. He is held on no bond.

No additional information has been provided at this time, including why Martinez-Estrada was in the home to begin with.
