Need for organ donation featured on Breakfast With Bridgett

Trib and Jasmine Persaud join Breakfast With Bridgett

On Tuesday, Bridgett highlighted Asian American and Pacific Islander Month and organ donation awareness.

Trib and Jasmine Persaud first learned about organ donation after the loss of their son, Anand, in a car crash 20 years ago. Anand’s organs saved six lives. Since then, his parents have traveled the world spreading awareness and sharing support to others.

“We call it a rippling effect. One saves one and then the others save thousands. Throughout these years, as you say, the two decades, it seems a short time, but we always are resilient, always passionate, not to miss a beat to emphasize the importance of organ donation,” Persaud said.

The Persauds who have Southeast Asian heritage, immigrated from Guyana, and want their story to help others decide to become organ donors.

Kia Malone of Our Legacy Florida says chronic liver disease affects the AAPI community more than any other group. She says awareness of living organ donation options and sharing our final wishes with family members helps more people find matches and save lives.
