ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 14-year-old Orlando girl died Thursday after a tree fell on top of a car she was in, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the car was heading south on Reams Road near Summerlake Boulevard around 6:49 p.m. when a tree fell on the roof of the vehicle.

The girl — who was sitting in the back passenger seat — was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

The 40-year-old driver and another passenger — a 12-year-old boy — were uninjured, troopers said.

Traffic along the road was blocked in both southbound and northbound lanes, according to the FHP.

Strong storms passed through Central Florida on Thursday evening around the same time, bringing heavy rain and wind to many parts of the region.

However, no details were given about whether the weather played a role in the tree falling down.

No additional information has been provided at this time.
