BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A boat crew with U.S. Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral towed a disabled vessel with five people on board back to Jetty Park on Friday.
The vessel — a 36-foot center console named “Smells Like Fish” — was stranded some 23 miles off the Florida coast, U.S. Coast Guard Southeast said on social media. Its crew had activated their emergency positioning indicating radio beacon, or EPIRB, which led their rescuers to their location.

“Smells Like Fish” was successfully towed back to the shore and trailered, the post states.
“Having a properly registered EPIRB can greatly reduce the time it takes our rescue crews to locate you during an emergency, as demonstrated in this case,” Chief Warrant Officer Alfredo Rivera, command duty officer with U.S. Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, said in a statement. “We recommend all boaters equip their vessels with life-saving equipment, especially during the summer when conditions can change rapidly.”
