New affordable housing subdivision opens in Sanford

Leadership Point funded by American Rescue Plan Act, built by Habitat for Humanity

SANFORD, Fla. – Seminole County leaders are celebrating a new affordable housing subdivision in Sanford.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday for Leadership Point, which is the first in Seminole County to be funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and also the first subdivision in the county to be built by Habitat for Humanity.

The six homes represent the expansion of affordable housing options in the community.

According to officials, buyers of the homes are screened through Seminole County Community Services’ Homeownership Program to ensure financial eligibility for the program and purchasing of the homes.

Once a sale of a home is complete, the county said it will receive reimbursement from their initial investment of ARPA dollars.

The funds would then be reinvested to create a revolving line of credit to the developer as an incentive to consistently build more homes.

Six families are expected to be moving into their homes later this month as first-time homeowners.
