‘There are little things you can do:’ Annual blood drive in Orlando honors Pulse victims 8 years later

ORLANDO, Fla. – OneBlood is holding an annual blood drive outside Orlando City Hall Wednesday. The drive comes eight years following the Pulse Nightclub tragedy in Orlando.

“It feels like a little thing, but a million people donate blood and that’s something,” Terry Yonker said.

Yonker signed up to donate blood Wednesday and said he remembers that dark day while he was living in Japan in 2016.

“There are little things you can do. You can vote, you can give blood,” Yonker said.

On June 12, 2016, a gunman went into the Pulse Nightclub killing 49 people and injuring dozens more. In the hours after the shooting, hundreds lined up outside donation centers in the Orlando area to donate blood.

Ever since, OneBlood has been getting results through blood drives adding that many Pulse survivors are alive today because of donors.

A bus will be available Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. across the street from the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, where a remembrance ceremony is taking place Wednesday night.
