ST. CLOUD, Fla. – This Father’s Day weekend, Kingston, Conner and Irelynn are washing cars and selling baked goods to raise money for their father’s funeral.
“They were asking for a couple days. When are we doing the car wash, we want to make bracelets and raise money for Daddy,” said Joey Beck’s estranged wife, Brittany Harrell.
Joey Beck, 29, was killed last Saturday in St. Cloud after being attacked and shot in his car.
Micheal Beck said the pain of losing his brother is nearly unbearable.
“He’s all I had left. It was just me and him. Our mom and dad died when he was 15,” said Michael.
Harrell said the man charged with Joey’s death, Joshua Miller, was a close friend.
“They just asked me, ‘Why would Daddy’s best friend kill him?’” Harrell said.
On Monday, Osceola Sheriff Marcos Lopez said Miller confessed to killing Joey.
Harrell spoke with Miller this week.
“He knows he ruined my kids’ life. He knows he ruined everyone’s life, including his own family, and he doesn’t want to live another day with this on his chest,” Harrell said.
Harrell and Michael Beck said they’ll have to raise $5,000 for funeral expenses. So far, they’ve raised more than $2,000.
The family believes the community can help Joey Beck’s children mourn their father and heal.
“How important is it to see this support? I’ve never seen this before: the community coming out like this. My brother would have loved it. He would have loved it,” said Michael Beck.
The family is holding another fundraiser for Joey Beck’s funeral on Sunday at 9 a.m. in St. Cloud at 2251 13th Street.
