Ask a doctor: Have fun in the sun, but protect yourself from heat illness

Dr. Panchal also talks about exercising in hot weather

ORLANDO, Fla. – Summer in Central Florida is quite literally fun in the sun! But with all the activities that require braving the heat, it also means awareness about preventing heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Tuesday on Breakfast With Bridgett, Dr. Chirag Panchal, a family practitioner with Orlando Health, talked about the warning signs of heat-related illness.

He listed several best practices and ideas to guard against it for all occasions, ages and activity levels in your family.

That advice also goes for exercise in hot weather as well as working or excursions like the theme parks.

“Make sure you’re hydrating, not just the day of, but also the days leading up to and after exercising or being outside. And remember water is key, but you also want to replace your electrolytes,” Dr. Panchal said.
