ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A fire ripped through part of the top floor of a two-story apartment building in Orange County Friday afternoon, and firefighters think fireworks could have been to blame.
Orange County Fire Rescue confirms the fire at a building on Casa Del Rey Circle, at the Summerset at International Crossing complex off Oak Ridge Road west of John Young Parkway.
Video from Sky 6 shows the fire went through the roof of the apartment, though it appeared to be contained to only part of the building. It’s not known yet what caused it but crews say fireworks were seen going off when they arrived.
Crews say the fire started on a second-floor patio and spread fairly quickly, moving to the attic.
The Red Cross says eight apartments were affected by the fire.
“My house, my apartment got burned,” said Anna Pierre. “We was inside, I was about to take a baby in the shower and then she screamed fire. By the time we even looked, the whole back porch got burned. So we went inside and we saw 5 little boys sitting right there. It all happened so fast.”
Pierre believes her neighbor’s home also saw damage. No one was hurt. The Red Cross is helping the victims, including 16 adults and seven children.
“We got no clue, life is already hard. I don’t even know what’s the next step. Where do we even start? This all happened so fast. It’s so unfair, it’s so unfair,” Pierre said.
It’s not known yet what caused the fire.
