Florida Disney resort worker pleads guilty to stealing over $180K by refunding guest accounts

ORLANDO, Fla. – A St. Cloud woman pleaded guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from the U.S. Department of Defense over the course of nearly two years, according to the Department of Justice.

In a release on Tuesday, DOJ officials said that the woman — Elizabeth Carpenter, 44 — had been an accounting technician at Shades of Green, a DOD resort for U.S. servicemembers located on Walt Disney World Resort’s property.

But between July 2022 and March 2024, Carpenter used computer credentials that came with her position to access guests’ accounts and refund some of these guests’ room payments to Carpenter’s personal credit card accounts, the release states.

In all, Carpenter performed at least 652 unauthorized transactions, which tallied up to $183,079.60, prosecutors announced.

According to the release, Carpenter has since agreed to forfeit the money, and she pleaded guilty to the theft of government property.

Carpenter’s sentence hearing is scheduled for Nov. 12. Prosecutors said she faces a maximum of 10 years in federal prison.
