MELBOURNE, Fla. – The city of Melbourne has removed around 3,600 pounds of trash from underneath a local bridge on Wednesday, according to the city’s mayor.

On social media, Mayor Paul Alfrey announced that the debris had been removed from a “homeless camp” under the Apollo Boulevard bridge near Eau Gallie High School.

Alfrey explained that the city received reports about an “exponential amount of trash” that had grown there over the span of around two months.

As a result, the city posted 30-day legal notices, and the site was ultimately cleaned, Alfrey added.

“Great work by our team, and we will continue to clean up our city for our residents!” he wrote.

In addition, Alfrey said fencing would be installed to prevent similar issues in the future.
