‘Ground depression’ reported in Lake County neighborhood, evacuations underway, officials say

Homes evacuated on Compass Rose Drive in Groveland

GROVELAND, Fla. – A “ground depression” opened near a Lake County residence is forcing several evacuations on Saturday evening.

Officials originally described it as a sinkhole, but later described it as a ground depression.

The depression was reported near a home on Compass Rose Drive in Groveland. The home near the hole was evacuated, as well as two other homes nearby.

Experts said the depression measures about 10 feet by 80 feet and about 8-feet deep.

A Lake County spokesperson advised that homes are in danger and residents are being evacuated, but did not disclose any other details.
