Sumter County Sheriff’s Office hit by ransomware attack. Here’s what’s impacted

Access to certain records limited during investigation

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday that the agency has been struck by a ransomware attack.

In a Facebook post, deputies said the sheriff’s office quickly cut off all access from the attacker, so law enforcement service responses are not impacted.

However, access to “certain records” are limited as the investigation into the attack continues, deputies added.

“We are diligently working with FDLE and Florida Digital Services, along with other IT professionals, to examine the nature of this attack,” the post stated.
