KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A now-former Kissimmee police officer faces charges of battery, official misconduct, witness tampering and more in connection to a 2023 use of force case, according to the office of Orange-Osceola State Attorney Andrew Bain.

Andrew Baseggio on Thursday, Aug. 1, was indicted by an Osceola County grand jury of felony battery, misdemeanor battery, official misconduct, solicitation for perjury and two counts of tampering with a witness, Bain’s office said in a news release. He has since been relieved of duty, the Kissimmee Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday.

On August 6, 2024, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrested Andrew Baseggio, an employee of the Kissimmee Police Department at Osceola County Corrections after he voluntarily surrendered.

The indictment follows an incident on April 22, 2023, in which Baseggio is accused of entering a home along Brack Street without a warrant and using force “not consistent with (the) Kissimmee Police Department’s use of force policy” to take a man into custody, causing the man to suffer serious bodily injuries, the release states.

There also exists evidence that Baseggio spoke with witnesses about their testimony during the investigation and wrote a falsified report to avoid an internal affairs investigation, according to Bain’s office.

“We apply the law equally to everyone. Most law enforcement officers work tirelessly to protect and serve our community, but when one breaks the law, they will be held to the same standard as everyone else,” Bain said in a statement.

Baseggio turned himself in on Tuesday at the Osceola County Jail and will proceed through the criminal justice system, in turn receiving “an appropriate bond amount in accordance with the law,” the statement reads.

Baseggio was scheduled to make his first appearance in court around 1 p.m. Wednesday and is set to be arraigned the morning of Aug. 21, records show.
