LAKE MARY, Fla. – Thousands of people were in Lake Mary Saturday morning for a parade and block party celebrating the city’s Little League team.
The city held festivities for the world champions after their win in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, at the Little League World Series. The team representing the southeast U.S. beat Chinese-Taipei in extra innings Sunday to become the first in state history to win it all.

A procession of public safety vehicles, local professional mascots, former MLB players and more made their way from Country Club Road down to 4th Street.
According to Lake Mary police, roughly 20,000 people attended the parade and block party.
“People need to come with that mentality that, yeah, you’re coming to a small downtown that’s usually quaint on Sunday for a farmers market, but we’re probably expecting thousands of people to the point that extra law enforcement has been activated just to assist,” News 6 traffic safety expert Trooper Steve said ahead of the event. “We already know that this is not just a Lake Mary thing. This is a state of Florida celebration. So, you’re going to be getting folks from Kissimmee, DeLand, things like that.”

The following road closures will be in effect for the parade:
- Country Club Road at Lakeview Avenue*
- Country Club Road at Alma Avenue*
- Country Club Road at Grandbend Avenue
- Country Club Road at East Lake Mary Avenue
- Country Club Road at Wilbur Avenue
- Country Club Road at Crystal Lake Avenue
*According to Lake Mary police, Country Club Road will be closed from Alma to Lakeview avenues until around 2 p.m. to allow for safe travel to and from the SunRail station.
Extended road closures include:
- 4th Street at Lake Mary Boulevard
- 4th Street at Lakeview Avenue
- 4th Street at Crystal Lake Avenue
SunRail service will be operational Saturday from select stations in Seminole County. It will be free of charge as a courtesy of Seminole County and the city of Lake Mary. Trains will operate only between the Sanford, Lake Mary, Longwood, and Altamonte Springs stations between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2:17 p.m.
