Trooper Steve on Patrol talks sandhill cranes, animals in the roadway

Watch again at the top of this story

ORLANDO, Fla. – Today’s topic even caught me by surprise.

If you’ve spent any time here during the summer and warm weather months, you may have encountered an oddly large bird. This bird has an attitude of its own and an identifiable voice.

I’m talking about the Florida sandhill cranes. These cranes seem to have complete awareness of themselves and truly don’t care where they walk or even when they hold up traffic.

A viewer asked what they should do when encountering these birds on the roadway.

I thought today we would take the opportunity to talk about animals in general out on the roadway and to touch upon these beautiful sandhill cranes.

By the way, if you want to get road crossing signs in your neighborhood to alert drivers, we did a story explaining how to get one in Orange County right here.
