SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – Flooding continues to be a concern in Sumter County along the Withlacoochee River.
However, Sumter County officials also tell us they’re keeping a close eye on Lake Panasoffkee in areas near the Outlet River that feeds into the Withlacoochee.
John Liddle lives near Lake Panasoffkee and he is hoping for the best when it comes to the flooding.
“We got a little bit of flow in the Canal River right now,” Liddle said. “As long as that continues, hopefully the water won’t rise as quickly and and flood us out.”

Liddle said he has a little bit of water in his backyard.
‘”We just play it day-by-day, you know it might even get to the point of hour-by-hour,” Liddle said. “It is what it is you can’t beat mother nature.”
Water continues to be a problem in Croom and Nobelton. Tamrya Daniel’s mother lives in Nobelton and said she was shocked to see how high the water was around her mom’s house.
“She has been here for quite a while in Nobelton, I come from the city so of course I’m not used to this kind of flooding. She’s going to wait it out,” Daniel said. “Just make sure it doesn’t, you know, get worse than what it is now and we’ll just ride it out, see how it goes. But so far, of course, I would be a little concerned.”
Robert Bert has a home next door and was prepping his home with sandbags.
“This is about as bad as it ever got before,” Bert said. “It might get a little worse but not real concerned that’s why I’m bagging it up.”
Sumter County Emergency Management Director, David Casto, told us the water current in the Croom area also began to pick up, making it a dangerous situation for everyone involved including first responders.
He is urging people who live along the river to evacuate if they don’t feel safe in their home.
The county has opened up a pet-friendly shelter at the Sumter County Fairgrounds.
