ORLANDO, Fla. – The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida, which has been getting results in the community for more than 80 years, held its annual Faces of the Future fundraising event Friday morning.
News 6 anchor Lisa Bell had the honor of hosting a panel discussion among four outstanding Boys and Girls Club members during the event that was held at the Jacqueline Bradley and Clarence Otis Boys & Girls Club in Orlando’s West Lakes community.
Some of the questions Bell asked the panel included: how has the Boys and Girls Club helped you overcome something difficult in your life and what does a bright future mean to you?
“I’m majoring in early childhood development so with that I plan on owning my own daycare,” replied club member D’Alicia Mathis.
“The Boys and Girls Club has helped me by helping me bring up my math grade when I was on the borderline of failing,” said club member Jacarri Buckhorn.
Fifth grader London Sanon said, “when I had a track meet and I wasn’t sure that I was going to win, I was doubting myself, they brought up my courage and made me believe, and got first place.”
“I see myself going to the University of Kentucky and becoming a neurosurgeon,” said club member Clermond “Kevin” Pompilus.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida serves more than 12,000 kids across five Central Florida counties offering free afterschool care along with academic support, extracurricular opportunities, and positive role models.
