Firefighters respond to The Lenox At Merritt Island

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – Twenty people were rescued Friday night at a senior living facility in Merritt Island after its elevators broke, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.

Firefighters with the county and with the Merritt Island Volunteer Fire Department responded to The Lenox At Merritt Island, where crews reportedly worked to carry stranded residents back up to their apartments.

Photos shared to social media by Brevard County Fire Rescue include a snapshot of one of the residents being carried by a firefighter up a set of stairs.

Most of the residents live on the 10th and 11th floors of the facility, according to the post, which added the firefighters also helped move up belongings and wheelchairs.
